PERCEPTION ENGINEER

Are you an inspired and motivated perception engineer looking to work together with a team of passionate and clever developers devoted to building a new tomorrow?
WELCOME TO THE TEAM!
The Intelligent Machine Platforms department is a division of Automation and Connected Solutions at Volvo CE. We design the solutions of the future including teleoperated and autonomous machines for different construction equipment applications and segments. Our mission is to create safe automation solutions helping our customers reach sustainability and productivity goals. We also create apps on our own Android tablet called Co-Pilot in the purpose of coaching and assisting our machine operators to be more efficient and environmentally friendly. We are driven by the vision that our innovations will create a better tomorrow for our future generations.
This is a unique opportunity to join a fantastic team with a startup mentality working with truly disruptive technology while at the same time being a part of the world-renowned Volvo Group.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
We are currently looking to expand our automation team and we are eager to get to know an enthusiastic and devoted engineer. You will be part a team responsible for designing, specifying and installing the obstacle detection system in our machines. The system is based on lidar and radar technology and your work will consist both of implementing the system and of specifying these kinds of systems towards potential suppliers.
You will participate in developing innovative perception algorithms to detect and identify objects and also in testing the functionality of the same. You will deliver perception solutions to our autonomous prototypes as well as our conventional machines.
The role also includes participating in continuous improvement of our ways of working and you will be encouraged to dream big, dare to fail, innovate and always invest time in personal development.
In our department we have an agile setup and we really support each other, so getting into our work is easy. You will join a Scrum team and collaborate with other teams on a daily basis, making sure to deliver a great product. The colleagues you will get are fantastic and always ready for new technical adventures. For instance, together with other colleagues at Volvo CE, the team just proved that we can lower carbon dioxide emissions by 98% in the Electric Site project!
WHO ARE YOU?
Apart from being curious and enthusiastic we hope you also have a background within the obstacle detection field. In order to create great system designs and have good dialogues with suppliers, knowledge in perception and the corresponding sensor types including sensor fusion is important. You might even have a PhD in this field. You are definitely up for almost any challenge and maybe you have seen one or two ADAS products go from innovative ideas to production solutions. You either already like coding in C++ and Java or you are eager to learn the language when developing state-of-the-art perception algorithms.
You might also have competence in data optimization, sensor calibration and processing, computer vision, machine learning, neural networks or any other related field. What’s for sure is that you definitely have a techie mindset and you are not afraid of trying out your solutions on the machines at our brand new automation test track located just outside the office.
You are an open and creative person with a can-do attitude. You are fluent in English, both written and spoken, and you either speak Swedish or are eager to learn a new language. In any case, you love being part of a dynamic, diverse and fun team so you will fit right in!
ARE WE THE PERFECT MATCH?
If this sounds interesting (we really hope it does – we love our jobs!) just send in your application and we will be thrilled to start getting to know you.
